1.13 million viewers over the age of 15 watched the American presidential election on Czech television. That’s four percent more than last election night four years ago. CNN’s rival news platform Prima News reported that nearly 1.5 million people tuned in to coverage of the US election finale for at least three minutes. It follows from today’s information on television.
The American election night was followed by a special called USA elects the president on ČT1 and ČT24 programs, which was broadcast simultaneously on Wednesday morning. “This special was watched by a total of 150,000 adult viewers on both channels with a share of 28 percent, the total reach was 628,000 viewers,” said CT spokeswoman Vendula Krejčová.
The time around 08:30 was the most watched, when approximately 205,000 viewers watched ČT1 and ČT24. On ČT24, the special continued until 10:05. The last hour was watched by an average of 103,000 viewers on the news channel ČT24 alone, with a share of 14.97 percent. According to the spokesperson, the viewership of the morning special was similar to that in 2020, when it was broadcast only on ČT24, but in longer footage.
On CNN Prima News, the share reached over 12 percent between 01:00 and 05:00 on Wednesday morning and exceeded 18 percent in prime time. “People in large numbers watched the morning special block for the American elections. Between eight and nine o’clock, the share reached 11.9 percent. Thanks to the specials dedicated to the American elections, the viewership was above average even throughout Wednesday, which reached a share of 3.47 percent,” added Matěj Štýs from the press department of Prima.
Republican ex-president Donald Trump won the US presidential election, defeating Kamala Harris from the Democratic Party.
