An Israeli airstrike against Deir al-Balah in the central part of the Gaza Strip has cost at least 10 Palestinians their lives, health officials told Reuters on Tuesday evening Danish time. Several people are also said to have been injured in the attack, but it is not yet clear how many there are.
The health officials, whose precise titles are not elaborated, also say that five people have also been killed in another attack against the city of Rafah, which is located in the south of Gaza. Here, four are also said to have been injured.
Israel’s military has not immediately commented on the reports.
Also on Tuesday evening, the Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Health reported, according to AFP, an Israeli air attack against the Jenin camp in the West Bank. Six people have lost their lives here, it says – including a 15-year-old boy.
“There are six martyrs and several wounded as a result of the Israeli bombardment of the Jenin refugee camp,” says the authority in Ramallah in the West Bank.
Israel’s military has not commented on the number, but confirms according to AFP that “an attack in the Jenin area” was carried out.
The Palestinian Authority, PA, condemns the attack on the West Bank.
“The planned intervention (attack, ed.) prevents all efforts to maintain security and order and restore normal life”, says Anwar Rajab, who is a spokesman for the PA’s security forces, in a statement.
“It reflects the occupation’s intention to disrupt any national attempt to protect our people,” he adds.
The West Bank is a Palestinian piece of land that lies west of the Dead Sea. The area has been occupied by Israel since the Six-Day War in 1967. The scale of violence and attacks in the West Bank has increased since war broke out in Gaza in 2023.
