In recent days the Chinese edition of the 1000 Miglia was staged, a tribute to the legendary local race, in the name of classic regularity, like the historical re-enactment that has taken place in Italy since 1982, starting from Brescia and arriving in the same city. In the country of the Great Wall there is no geographical and cultural connection with what Enzo Ferrari called the most beautiful race in the world, but participation was significant. The honors of glory, in this first “1000 Miglia Experience China”, went to an Alfa Romeo Freccia d’Oro 6C 2500 Sport, driven to success by Umberto Galloni and Albert Wetz.
The two defended the colors of the “biscione” as part of the “Tribune Team”, with a considerable margin of advantage over their pursuers, in this unusual test between the pressure switches, in memory of the “Red Arrow”. The classic regularity challenge went on for 4 days, over approximately 1,000 km of route. A shorter length than that indicated in the name of the event, but still demanding, especially considering the age of the historic cars involved.
A few months ago, even in the real re-enactment of the “1000 Miglia”, the victory went to a creature of the “biscione”: aAlfa Romeo 6C 170 Super Sport of 1929, driven by Andrea Vesco and Fabio Salvinelli, with the colors of the “Villa Trasqua” team. It can be said that in the regularity field the Milanese brand has experienced a happy season, thus honoring its noble sporting history, made up of great successes in speed races, certainly more demanding and more appreciated by enthusiasts, even if now confined to different, for security reasons.
The legend of the 1000 Miglia took shape between 1927 and 1957, when it took place in its original form. Then the dramatic accident that occurred at Ferrari 335 S of the Marquis Alfonso de Portago, which led to its epilogue. Since 1982 the name has come back into vogue, recalling cars of great interest, with a challenge of regularity in the name of memory, to re-propose the places of myth with a different format compatible with the new provisions in terms of safety. THE eligible modelsthat is, those with some hope of access to the entry list, are those who took part in the competitive version of the 1000 Miglia or who were produced in the same period of time.
The bond between Alfa Romeo and the Brescia race is an indissoluble bond. In total, the “biscione” brand boasts 11 successes in the legendary race, of which 7 consecutive, scored from 1932 to 1938: an absolute record. The first success of the Milanese company took shape in 1928, during the second edition of the “Freccia Rossa”, when the cars designed by it imposed themselves both in the individual classification, with the 6C 1500 Super Sport of Giuseppe Campari and Giulio Ramponi, and in the in teams, showing great performance vigor and equally great reliability: all the brand’s cars lined up at the start actually reached the finish line.
