Thirteen years after the freight train connection between China and Germany opened, the 100,000th ride is about to arrive.
The Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported the departure of the train, which is expected in Germany within a few days.
In recent years, China has invested hundreds of billions of euros in the construction of a direct train connection across the mainland. It must be able to compete with maritime transport.
A company like DHL is one of the carriers that has included the railway in its range. Customers can choose between air, sea or land transportation. From China the latter goes by train.
Eleven million sea containers were transported in those thirteen years. The contents represented a value of $420 billion. They are mainly makers and sellers of electronics, clothing and car parts who import from China.
