After a wait of 12 years, Romania managed to achieve this performance again in women’s gymnastics, at the Olympic Games.
The “tricolor” athletes qualified for the women’s team final in artistic gymnastics on Sunday at the Olympic Games in Paris.
12 years apart, Romania managed to do it again in women’s gymnastics, at the Olympic Games!
After 12 years of waiting, Romania managed to qualify again in the artistic gymnastics team final. The performance was recorded on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at the Paris Olympics.
The “Tricolore” managed to grab the last place leading to the final, eighth, with 159,497 points, after advancing to the first subdivision. Team USA, led by star Simone Biles, dominated qualifying with a total of 172.296 points. The other finalists are Italy (166,861), China (166,628), Brazil (166,499), Japan (162,196), Canada (161,563) and Great Britain (160,830).
Biles, the star of the United States, was the best individual athlete, accumulating 59.566 points. Ana Maria Bărbosu also qualified for the final, with the 16th overall (53.533), taking into account Chiles (USA) and Iorio (Italy), who did not reach the final, their teams already having two representatives each in this phase of the competition.
How the “tricolors” fared in Paris
Sabrina Maneca Voinea managed to qualify for the beam and floor finalsand Ana Bărbosu caught the floor final.
Thus, Sabrina Maneca Voinea received a score of 14.000 on beam, being fifth in the qualifications, and Ana Maria Bărbosu was 17th, with 13.533 points. At the same time, Amalia Ghigoartă is 30th (13,266) and Lilia Cosman 41st (12,833).
On floor, Sabrina Maneca Voinea was scored with 13.800, being fourth, Ana Maria Bărbosu was 8th, with 3.600, Amalia Ghigoartă, 16th, with 13.333, and Lilia Cosman, 53rd, with 12,466.
Bărbosu was 15th in vaults, with an average of 13.633, and Amalia Ghigoartă 43rd in parallel bars 13.066. Bărbosu (12.600 – 57), Lilia Cosman (11.333 – 76) and Andreea Preda (10.933 – 79) also performed at the same level.
The women’s team final will be played on July 30, starting at 7:15 p.m. On August 1, 2024, the individual all-around final is scheduled at 7:15 p.m., while on August 5, the beam finals will take place at 1:38 p.m. and the floor finals at 3:23 p.m.
We remind you that the last final in which the Romanian women’s team participated was at the 2012 Olympic Games, in London, where they won bronze medals.
