16.5 percent of employees in Serbia suffer from migraines
Migraine is a disease that affects about one billion people worldwide, and in Serbia, according to research, 16.53 percent of employees suffer from this neurological disease.
This was stated by Svetlana Simić, a neurologist from the University Clinical Center of Vojvodina.
On the occasion of World Migraine Day, she said that thanks to new generation therapies, many patients can now live normally despite migraines.
“New drugs make it possible to significantly reduce the frequency, intensity and severity of attacks, which improves the quality of life of sufferers,” said Simić, adding that the availability of the most modern therapies would significantly improve the working capacity of people with migraine and greatly improve their quality of life.
According to research by pharmaceutical company Teva/Actavis, migraine affects one in seven working people during their most productive years, usually between 35 and 45, and can have a serious impact on their career and overall well-being.
Women get sick three times more often than men
Women suffer from migraines three times more often than men. It is estimated that around half a million people suffer from migraines in Serbia.
According to a survey conducted by the European Migraine and Headache Association (EMHA), 60 percent of respondents who suffer from migraine stated that because of this invisible to the environment and disabling disease for the sufferer, they miss almost five working days a month on average.
The survey also found that migraine sufferers at work often feel forced to hide their condition for fear of being judged or not taken seriously.
