17-year-old boy found dead in collapsed house after explosion

The body of a 17-year-old boy has been recovered after an explosion in a house in Memmingen in southern Germany.

This was stated by a spokesperson for the police early Saturday to the German news agency dpa.

Rescue workers found the deceased boy in the house next door to the house where the explosion took place.

It is still unclear what caused the explosion. It took place around 17:20 Danish time on Friday.

The house where the explosion happened was so damaged in the explosion that apparently only rubble remains on the grounds.

The house next door, where the boy was found, is also badly damaged, it says. It is partially crashed.

On Friday evening, the rescue workers succeeded in entering the destroyed house next door, where they found the body of the teenage boy. It was on the first floor of the house, the police said.

A total of more than 100 forces had been deployed to help with the operation and to provide support to both relatives and residents of the local area.

A 68-year-old man lives in the house where the explosion occurred, but he was not at home when the accident occurred. The police later tracked him down and he is unharmed.

It is not clear whether the police suspect that a crime has been committed in connection with the explosion.

An excavator has now been placed at the site to remove the large amounts of rubble.

According to a photographer from dpa who is at the scene, some rubble from the house has been blown about 100 meters away as a result of the powerful explosion.

It was not only the house itself and the neighboring house in question that were damaged.

Several buildings and cars, which were parked on the street, were also destroyed by either the explosion or the flying rubble from the house, according to the police.
