20 million for the cultural capital of Barcelona

BarcelonaOn Tuesday, the Council of Ministers authorized the granting of 20 million euros to a total of 46 cultural organizations within the framework of the cultural capital of Barcelona. The allocations, charged to the budget of the Ministry of Culture for 2024, fulfill the commitment reached in 2020 between the Spanish executive and Barcelona City Council.

Macba will receive 1.5 million euros for the expansion of its facilities. Disseny HUB Barcelona, ​​1.56 million euros to promote activities of creative and cultural industries. The rehabilitation of several Creation Factories, such as Tantarantana, Central del Circ, Fabra i Coats and Graner, will have a budget of 1.2 million euros. 900,000 euros will also be allocated for exhibitions at the La Virreina Art Centre, and the same amount for the Barcelona Cultural District programme.

The urban art festival Mercè Arts de Carrer (MAC) will receive 660,000 euros, and the Joan Miró Foundation will have 600,000 euros for the exhibition Miró-Matisse: Beyond images. El Grec, Barcelona’s great summer festival, will receive a grant of 630,000 euros. The National Art Museum of Catalonia will receive 300,000 euros for its exhibition program in 2024, while the Museum of Natural Sciences will receive 500,000 euros for the realization of cycles of temporary exhibitions.
