248 positions cut at equipment manufacturer Dumarey Powerglide in Strasbourg

248 jobs, out of 584, will be eliminated at the Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin) factory of automatic gearbox manufacturer Dumarey Powerglide. The decision, announced to employees on Friday October 4, during an extraordinary meeting of the CSE, was expected by the teams who had organized a demonstration on September 28 and went on strike in July.

In question, the cessation of production, at the end of August, of an 8-speed gearbox for the German equipment manufacturer ZF. A client who represented, according to the unions, up to 80% of the company’s turnover. ZF and Dumarey Powerglide have since signed a memorandum of understanding, under which ZF has contributed a guarantee fund of 60 million euros.

Uncertain market

The PSE concerns all sectors of the company and in particular the production, assembly, maintenance and logistics professions. Dumarey Powerglide highlighted in a press release a market made uncertain by “the situation of the automobile market for several years and the transition period towards electric (…) not to mention competition from China“. The Alsatian factory maintains a small production of automatic transmissions and components, for Stellantis, Renault and ZF. Not enough, according to André Dulery, CGT delegate, member of the CSE. “Our priority was to save jobs, unfortunately there are few projects left. Now, we will fight so that employees leave with good compensation and good reclassification conditions», he points out.
