With each new episode, the animationArcane always takes our breath away, as the whole thing is mastered from start to finish. If you’ve always dreamed of understanding how the Fortiche studio manages to maintain such quality, here are 3 anecdotes from filming on season 2 of the Netflix series, derived from the game League of Legends.

Season 2 ofArcane has only just started on Netflix, and already, the animated series shows us that it has clearly not finished dazzling us. In just three first episodes, available since November 9, 2024, the adaptation of League of Legends has already sown many clues about the grand finale of one of the best Netflix series, between cryptic sequences, new characters galore and unexpected evolution of Hextech.

On the graphics side, too, the French studio Fortiche has pushed ever more limits, with a sublime aesthetic. So, while waiting for Act II, which will be revealed on November 16 on Netflix, here are 3 little secrets behind the scenes of the making ofArcane.

A hand-drawn black and white scene

From its first minutes, season 2 ofArcane took us by surprise, with an absolutely sublime opening sequence, in black and white. This scene symbolizes Caitlyn’s grief after the bombing that hit Piltover and killed her mother, Cassandra.

To compose it, the animators from the Fortiche studio then used one of the most difficult techniques to master: charcoal. The entire sequence was drawn by hand, before then being animated. Bluffing.

Vi and Jinx are linked, even in their eyes

In Arcanethe two sisters Vi and Jinx are allies, but also constant enemies. And their bond does not stop at that of blood. To bring these iconic characters to life, the smallest detail is important. Thus, Jinx’s eyes are originally blue, then turn pink when she transforms under the effect of the Shimmer, in season 1.

Fans have therefore noticed that, according to the official Pantone references, the exact shades of her pupils are called… Violet Blue and Red Violet, like her sister, therefore. Vi, for her part, has a look that is described as Powder Blue, exactly like Jinx’s original name in her childhood. It is difficult to be more precise and moving.

Jayce’s hammer becomes… a pillow on a broomstick

To bring animated characters to life, several techniques are possible, from hand drawing to motion capturewhich makes it possible to perfectly match the movements of a human being, thanks to sensors placed on their body.

Pour Arcanethe animators decided to proceed differently to combine 2D and 3D elements: film themselves in different situations, to be able to better recreate facial movements. A rather common technique in the field of animation, which gives rise to funny videos shared on X (formerly Twitter). In particular, we see Jayce’s famous hammer become… a pillow hung on a broomstick.
