30 years of PlayStation and Sony is releasing new limited edition consoles

This year Sony is experiencing a fortunate event, marks 30 years since it launched the PlayStation brand and commemorates the occasion with limited edition consoles and accessories.

Part of this limited anniversary edition is its digital variant PlayStation 5, the new PlayStation 5 Pro, DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers and the PlayStation Portal.

All these devices feature a reminiscent gray color the original PlayStation model released on December 3, 1994. The consoles have a lighter shade in terms of the outer panels and a darker gray inner body with the original four-color PlayStation logo on the side. There’s also a special 30th anniversary logo on the back and embossed as a subtle repeating pattern on the inner side of the outer panels.

Both the PS5 digital and PS5 Pro also come with matching accessories. The standard DualSense controller also features the gray color scheme, the four-color PlayStation logo and the embossed 30th anniversary logo pattern. A special USB-C cable is included that has a thick connection point that mimics the look of the old PlayStation controller cable. The base is also color matched.

In the package offered by Sony, you’ll find PlayStation icon rubber cable ties, a PlayStation sticker, a PlayStation clip and a limited edition PlayStation poster in one of 30 possible designs. Since both consoles are digital, they also include a matching color plate for the optional disc drive if you choose to purchase one.

Finally, the PlayStation Portal gets the same change, with the color and logos.

All devices will also come in special packaging with a similar design to the original PlayStation.

Sony sells the consoles in bundles, i.e. the PS5 Pro bundle includes the console with a matching DualSense and DualSense Pro controller, a DualSense charging station and the aforementioned accessories. It will be available in limited quantities 12300 units with each unit having its number printed on the side.

As for the simple PS5 bundle, it includes the digital version of the console along with a single DualSense controller and the aforementioned accessories.

PlayStation Portal Limited Edition will be sold separately. You can also purchase the Limited Edition version of the DualSense Edge, which also comes with a matching case and the standard DualSense.

One thing missing from this holiday new edition of the PS5 is that if you need the disc drive, you’ll have to buy it separately, as both consoles are digital only.

The limited edition products will be available for pre-order from September 26 from direct.playstation.com and from participating retailers, in addition to the basic PS5 digital version, which will be available at participating retailers from October 10. No pricing has been announced yet.
