300,000 euro fine-“bell” to Dimitra Katsafados for Black Friday – different

To achieve these objectives, the Ministry has launched a digital tool to spot deceptive discountswhich is used by its audit services.

Ministry of Development: Detection of Misleading Discounts

Through this digital system, 14 companies were identified that, during the last weeks, carried out misleading discounts, in violation of consumer law. These violations lead to sanctions, as provided by article 9j thereof Law 2251/1994.


Imposition of Fines

The Ministry of Development imposed a total of 2,220,000 euros in fines for the companies that were found to be in violation. In addition, according to article 13a of the same law, the disclosure of the companies’ details is foreseen, as long as the fines exceed the amount of 50,000 euros.

The first five companies, in which the legal process has been completed, were punished with the following fines:

  • 500,000 euros: KOSMOS SPORT S.A.
  • 400,000 euros: ATTICA DEPARTMENT STORES, anonymous sole proprietorship
  • 300,000 euros: LA VIE EN ROSE by Dimitra Katsafadou, a company that manufactures and markets cosmetic products
  • 200,000 euros: NOTOS COM HOLDINGS, an anonymous commercial and industrial company
  • 55,000 euros: SNEAKERS MARKET

Pending and Legislative Limitations

For the remaining nine companies, the notification process is ongoing and, once completed, their details will be made public. However, in two cases where the fines are below the threshold of 50,000 euros, the names of the companies will not be announced, in accordance with the provisions of the legislation.

The Ministry of Development, with this action, underlines its commitment to ensuring a transparent and fair market for the benefit of both consumers and businesses.
