From the Athens Security Sub-Directorate of the Attica Security Directorate, an extensive police operation was carried out for two days from September 11 to 12, 2024, with the aim of dealing with “street crimes” (STREET CRIMES), in the wider area of the center of Athens.
In this context, during the operations carried out by the Public Security Department of the Athens Security Sub-Directorate, with the assistance of OPKE, in the presence of judicial officers, in areas of the center of Athens, a total of -14- people were arrested and were still identified -32-, while they were analyzed in total:
- 16 thefts from inside houses,
- 7 thefts from inside shops and businesses,
- 5 thefts from the interior of the vehicle. cars,
- 2 total vehicle thefts,
theft from a holy temple, while
a case file was filed against -2- foreigners for forgery.
In detail:
Arrest of 4 foreigners for violation of the drug law
Appropriate use of information was preceded, from the investigation of which it emerged that the above reside in an apartment in the center of Athens, inside which they prepare and store forged travel documents (identities, passports, residence permits), while at the same time they also store narcotic substances.
In a check carried out at the house, the following were found and confiscated:
- 0.3 grams of cannabis, inside a pack of cigarettes,
- user payment notice,
- 2 identity cards of foreign nationals, one of which had the identification chip removed,
- proof of receipt of money from a foreign financial institution,
- 6 telephone devices and
- 3 packs of prepaid connection package, no SIM card.
Two arrests for violation of the drug law and disobedience
An appropriate use of information was preceded, from the investigation of which it emerged that the above reside in a ground floor house in the center of Athens and traffic in narcotic substances, while using the apartment in question to store the narcotic substances.
Police officers went to the scene to verify the information, but the above tried to frustrate the control, securing the window and preventing the police from entering the house.
In the search that followed in the apartment, in the presence of a judicial officer, -19- drug tablets were found and confiscated, while the above were arrested.
Six arrests for receiving and dealing in proceeds of crime, violation of national customs code, drug and weapons laws
A case file was filed against -6- foreigners for -as the case may be- acceptance and distribution of proceeds of crime, possession of documents of third parties, violation of the legislation on drugs, on weapons and the national customs code.
It was preceded by an appropriate utilization of information, from the investigation of which it emerged that in apartments in the center of Athens the above are storing stolen goods and documents of foreigners.
In a search carried out in the apartments in question, with the assistance of OPKE police officers, in the presence of court officials, the following were found and confiscated:
- 6 laptops,
- passport of a citizen, who had passed away in 2019,
- 3 mobile phones,
- 2 tablet,
- 4 wristwatches,
- glass breaker,
- 2 gold neck chains and round gold jewelry,
- 2 handbags, a backpack, a shoulder bag and -3- purses, a case containing a wristwatch, a wand, a neck chain, a ring and a pair of earrings,
folding knife with a total length of -16- centimeters and a blade length of -7- centimeters, - 3 nylon packages, containing cannabis with a total gross weight of -2.45- grams,
- 9mm caliber cartridge,
- 868 packs of cigarettes,
- athlete gym membership card with photo and
- the amount of -18,990- pounds.
The above could not justify the possession of all the objects found and therefore, at the end of the investigations, they were arrested.
Solving 29 thefts
Regular proceedings were filed against a total of –29– people for -as the case may be- theft, aggravated theft, attempted theft, attempted theft with complicity and aggravated theft with complicity.
In total, with the assistance of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, -10- thefts from houses, -6- attempted thefts from houses, -6- thefts and -1- attempted thefts from shops and workplaces, -5- from I.X. and -1- from a holy temple.
In particular, the following were investigated:
- theft on 15-16/03/2016 in the basement of an apartment building in the area of Ymittos, from where -4- air-conditioners with a total value of -2,800- euros, a vacuum cleaner, -5- oil containers of 17 liters, worth -70, were taken – euro each, gas bottle and -2- barrels of wine,
- aggravated theft on 06-07/07/2016 from the offices of a holy temple in Kolonos, from where -80- euros were taken,
- attempted theft on 03-07/09/2020 in a 5th floor apartment in the center of Athens,
- theft on 13-27/08/2020 in a ground-floor apartment in the Neo Kosmos area, from where a 43-inch TV was taken,
- attempted theft on 14/10/2020 in a ground floor apartment in the area of the center of Athens,
- theft on 17/02/2019 in a basement warehouse in the area of Kallithea, from where a bicycle worth -250- euros was taken,
- theft on 22-25/01/2021 in a business premises in the center of Athens, from where -45,000- euros, various jewelry and accessories worth at least -10,000- euros, personal, medical, bank and tax documents, copy of identity, bank notebooks and various case files,
- theft on 04-11/12/2020 in a store in the area of Neos Kosmos, from where the amount of -4,000- euros was taken, which was carefully hidden in the toilet,
- theft on 18/11/2020 at a business place in Agios Dimitrios, from where an employee’s bag was taken while it was in her office, which contained a mobile phone, a wallet containing the sum of -250- euros, bank cards, driver’s license and various personal items. The diploma and cards were found by police officers of the DIAS team. on 18/11/2020.
- theft on 01-02/02/2021 from N.P.D.D. in the center of Athens, where the doors of all floors and offices, except for two floors, were broken into and PCs, two chests of drawers and a chair were taken,
- theft on 17-18/03/2016 in a car, from which a carbine, hunting clothes, a hunting net and a folder with professional documents were removed from the luggage compartment,
- theft on 13/01/2021 in a store in Agios Dimitrios, where the total amount of -1,500- euros was taken from the cash register and the surrounding drawers,
- theft on 28/06/2017 in a car, from the inside of which was taken a gold women’s wristwatch of a branded brand, with a monetary value of approximately -10,000- euros,
attempted theft on 07/10/2020 in an apartment in the area of Nea Smyrni, where the perpetrators were noticed by the owner and fled, - theft on 31/05/2027 in a 1st floor apartment in the area of the center of Athens, from where -2- computers, a mobile phone and the amount of -65- euros were taken,
- theft on 11/03/2021 in a 1st floor apartment in the center of Athens, from where the amount of -1,100- euros was taken from bedroom furniture,
- attempted theft on 23/10/2020 in a raised ground floor apartment in the area of the center of Athens,
- theft on 19/07/2023 in a 5th floor apartment in the area of the center of Athens, from where the sum of -8,000- euros, gold and valuables, with a monetary value of approximately -20,000- euros, was taken,
- attempted theft on 12/06/2024 in a closed garage in the center of Athens,
- theft on 06-12/08/2023 in a ground-floor apartment in the center of Athens, from where gold pieces, the sum of -2,000-euro, -150- Albanian lek and various documents were taken,
- theft on 25/09/2023 in a single-family house on the ground floor in the center of Athens, from where a lot of clothes, two crystal vases, vinyl records, tools and electronics were taken,
- theft in an unknown period of time on the roof of an apartment building in the center of Athens, from where a number of copper pipes were removed from the building, a number of cables and components from the air conditioning systems, resulting in damages and problems in the building’s electricity supply,
- theft on 14-22/09/2023 in a 3rd floor apartment in the area of Kypseli, from where a purse with personal belongings of the tenant was taken,
- attempted theft on 27/08/2023 in an apartment building in the center of Athens,
- theft on 11/06/2023 in a car in the center of Athens, from where a leather bag was taken, which contained the sum of -5,000- euros, a wallet containing the sum of -10,000- LEI and various documents,
- theft on 09-10/11/2015 in a car in the area of Palei Faliros, which was found by the police on 02/12/2015 and handed over to its rightful owner,
- theft on 10/10/2023 in a car in the center of Athens, from where a paper bag with personal items and basic necessities were taken,
- attempted theft by accomplice on 11/04/2019 in a shop in the center of Athens,
- distinguished thefts by complicity on 25/03/2024 in a store in the Byron area of Attica, from where the cash register, which contained the sum of -1,300- euros, was taken. Also, with a key, which the perpetrators found inside the store, a vehicle was taken away, which was found by the police the next day and given to its owner.
Solving two car thefts
A case was filed against a 36-year-old citizen and his unknown accomplice for -as the case may be- embezzlement, theft by complicity and arson by complicity, since in February 2021 the 36-year-old, after embezzling a vehicle, was accompanied by him and his accomplice to another vehicle, they went to the area of Botanikos and set it on fire using a flammable liquid (gasoline). They then escaped with the misappropriated vehicle, which was later found by police officers and handed over to its rightful owner.
A case file was opened against a 23-year-old and a 32-year-old citizen, accused of theft, as on 30-31/08/2020 they removed from the area of the center of Athens a vehicle, which bore state plates and inside it were his driving license, house keys and sunglasses. On 09/01/2020, the vehicle was spotted moving on the National Highway and a chase ensued, as the driver did not comply with the police officers’ sound signals. Subsequently, the vehicle collided with another moving vehicle, but the driver abandoned it and managed to escape arrest, crossing the two streams of the National Road vertically. The stolen vehicle was handed over to its rightful owner.
Formation of case against -2- foreigners for forgery
A regular procedure file was filed against a 45-year-old and a 25-year-old, foreigners, accused of forgery, as it emerged from the investigation and examination of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, in an audit carried out, they were found to be in possession of “pre-existing” forged passports. The measure of administrative deportation was applied against them.
Those arrested, with the files filed against them, were taken to the competent prosecutor’s office.
