The current Government will provide 4,000 euros for the purchase of electric cars, but be careful, you will have to fulfill a requirement and there is now new information, as the notices have already been published in the Diário da República.

Support for the purchase of electric vehicles starts from January 1, 2024

The Government will provide support for the purchase of a light electric passenger vehicle whose total value does not exceed 38,500 euros. However, for those who do this it will be necessary to slaughter the current one.

According to notices published in Diário de República, the new incentive for trams will cover vehicles purchased since January 1st. On the other hand, the The request can be submitted to the Environmental Fund until the end of the year.

“As soon as the conditions are met” for the payment of support, it will be made by bank transfer. Whoever buys the vehicle must be in possession for a period of not less than 24 months from the date of acquisition. It is also prohibited to export itthis is because the objective is for Portugal to have more and more "environmentally friendly" vehicles.

Total support of 20 million euros is planned for the purchase of zero-emission vehicles, which can be passenger cars, electric and conventional bicycles, motorcycles and mobility devices and even electric vehicle chargers.

In relation to passenger cars, 1050 incentives of 4000 euros are foreseen for each vehicle costing up to 38,500 euros. Regarding the type of chargers for vehicles, 216 incentives of 80% of the sales price (VAT included) of the charging station, up to 800 euros, plus 80% of the price of the electrical installation, up to 1000 euros, are included.

According to Lusa, in the goods sector, a total expenditure of 1.5 million euros is expected in 2024 (1.2 million for light electric goods and 300,000 for electric cargo bicycles), and two million euros in 2025 .

In the case of passenger cars destined for Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS), the co-participation will be 4 thousand euros per vehicle up to 38.5 thousand euros as for the final consumer, with an increase of 5 thousand euros.
