48 MP cameras and other novelties

The iPhone 17 Pro series promises to be one of Apple’s most exciting releases in recent years, especially in terms of the camera system.

The already famous Weibo user Digital Chat Station posted a rumor on his account.

If we are to follow him, both Pro models will benefit for the first time from a complete system consisting of 48 megapixel sensors.

The main cameras of the phones in the new Apple series will use a 48-megapixel sensor with Fusion technology and a size of 1/1.3 inches.

The ultrawide camera would also receive an upgrade to 48 megapixels.

Perhaps the most important improvement comes to the telephoto camera, which will go from 12 megapixels to 48 megapixels. In addition, it will use Tetraprism technology for improved zoom.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo confirms all this information and adds that the new camera will require specially designed prisms with a shorter form factor to reduce the height of the photo module.

The hybrid glass-plastic technology used in the lenses should bring superior optical performance and better low-light results.

Selfies also get attention

The front camera has not been forgotten, which will make the jump from 12 megapixels to 24 megapixels on all models in the iPhone 17 Pro range.

Jeff Pu, another well-known Apple analyst, claims that the new selfie camera will use a six-element lens, up from the current five.

New design and a surprise in the iPhone 17 Pro lineup

Apple is also preparing major design changes for the Pro series.

The back of the phones will combine aluminum with glass in a new way, and the photo module will have a rectangular shape, similar to the one seen on the Pixel phones.

Dynamic Island could become more compact thanks to the use of metalens technology for Face ID.

What happens with the Plus model

An interesting change also comes in the structure of the iPhone 17 range. After only two years, it will be retired, similar to what happened with the mini version.

In its place will appear a thinner model, which could bear the name of iPhone 17 Air or Slim.

The launch of the new series is expect in September 2025, and there may still be changes in specifications until then.
