4G voice is coming to more and more places abroad

Until now, the average Hungarian mobiliser could get used to the fact that, when roaming abroad, he usually does not receive the same quality of service as he does at home – thanks to agreements with partner service providers, however, the situation has improved a lot in recent years.

There is practically no person alive who has not had at least one problem with using a mobile phone abroad. If it wasn’t the extremely expensive tariff in some places, then it was the lousy sound quality, especially the slow mobile internet, that upset the mood – but fortunately, the developments of recent years have helped a lot to resolve the situation.

Telekom, for example, announced today that it will soon provide VoLTE (as the company calls it, 4G Voice) service on 114 networks in 54 countries, which is already standard here, so much so that 80% of mobile voice traffic is realized via this technology.

VoLTE roaming is mostly used by travelers in countries where 3G has already been switched off and the service provider has allocated minimal resources to 2G. Of course, this is also true the other way around, i.e. it also applies to incoming travelers, which will really be significant from January 1, 2026, when Yettel Hungary’s network will handle Telekom’s 2G traffic as well, and both service providers will be interested in reducing this to the minimum level. squeeze it back.

When traveling abroad, it is also worth using the manual network selection, since it is also clear from the above that not all partner providers offer VoLTE roaming (e.g. there are no European operators of the Vodafone Group from a published list).
