In the deep sea of the Teknaf Shahpari island coast, a huge bird fish weighing 5 tons is being caught in the fishing net. And to see the caught fish, the locals as well as the tourists are in a frenzy.
The fish from the trawler is carried by 7-8 fishermen on their shoulders and brought to Shahpari Island Jetty Ghat Fishery. The price has been raised to 45 thousand rupees.
The owner of the trawler, Mohammad Rafiq, said that the fishermen brought the fish for sale at Shahpari Island Jetty Ghat on Friday afternoon. As there is not much demand for birds and fish in this area, it was sold for only 15 thousand taka. Meanwhile, hundreds of people gathered to take a look at the huge fish.
Ziabul Haque, the trawler’s sailor, said that two days ago, I went to the deep sea with a trawler named FB Rafiq along with 15 fishermen. Later on Thursday, the giant bird fish was caught along with other fish after casting nets in the Moulvirsheel area adjacent to St. Martin.
The weight of the fish is so high that they have to gain speed to lift it onto the trawler. However, due to the lack of demand for this fish, the price is low. Because of this he expressed disappointment.
Chayed Alam, a fish merchant said, I have never seen such a big fish in my life. This fish is not available here. The fish is found in the deep sea. Due to the lack of demand for these fish in Teknaf area, they were sold at a very low price. The owner of the trawler was quoted 45 thousand rupees. Later fish merchant Sultan Ahmed bought it for 15 thousand taka
Teknaf Upazila Fisheries Officer Delwar Hossain said, this fish is known as ‘Pakhi fish’. Its weight is more than five tons. This fish is not caught much because it moves deep in the sea. These fish are very fast. Runs at a speed of 110 km per hour. But this fish is very tasty to eat.
As there is no demand for this fish in Teknaf area, the huge size fish weighing 5 maunds was sold for only 15 thousand taka, he said.
