How to deodorize an armchair or curtains?
There are several choices available to you, depending on what you have on hand.
King of natural cleaning productsbaking soda works wonders for deodorize a fabric. Take a jar with a lid and mix 5 drops oflavender essential oil or tea tree with 10 tablespoons of baking soda. Mix well. Then sprinkle this mixture on your interior textiles. After 10 minutes, remove the excess with a brush or vacuum cleaner. THE bad smells have disappeared!
If you cannot sprinkle the mixture (curtains, draperies, etc.), choose the spray option instead. Dissolve 2 tablespoons of baking soda and 2 drops of essential oil in 300 mL of water. Then spray your mixture on your textiles.
If your fabrics are fragile (old fabrics, silk, etc.) carry out a test on a small, inconspicuous part of the fabric to check the safety of the mixture.
You can also use another essential of ecological maintenance: the white vinegar ! In a spray bottle, dilute 10 cl of white vinegar with 5 cl oflavender hydrosol and 10 cl of water. Spray on your interior textiles and fabrics. In addition to eliminating bad odors, this mixture will revive the colors of your fabrics.
It is also possible touse basil to deodorize your fabrics : basil indeed has cleansing and anti-odor. How to do it? Macerate a sprig of dry basil (or ten leaves) in half a liter of boiling water. Then filter the mixture and pour it into a spray bottle, once warm. Spray this mixture on your interior textiles. However, it is best to avoid white textiles as this mixture risks staining your fabrics.

Deodorizing spray with white vinegar and essential oils
Ideal for: curtains, clothes between two washes, upholstery.
Ingredients (for 200 ml)
- 150 ml of white vinegar.
- 50 ml of water.
- 10 drops of lavender or tea tree essential oil.
Organic Tea tree essential oil
An essential reference in aromatherapy. Used for millennia by the Aborigines for its soothing and cleansing properties, it is today recognized for its many benefits.
In a clean spray bottle, mix white vinegar and water. Add the essential oil of your choice. Shake well before each use. Spray directly on your textiles, avoiding soaking them. Leave to dry in the open air: the vinegar chases away bad odors, and the essential oils leave a sweet fragrance.
Baking Soda and Lemon Absorbent Powder
Ideal for: rugs, cushions and mattresses.
Ingredients (for immediate use)
- 100 g baking soda.
- 1 finely grated lemon zest.
- (Optional) 5 drops of lemon essential oil.
Lemon essential oil or essence is in fact an extract from the zest and not from steam distillation.
In atmospheric diffusion (possibly in association with other citrus fruits or tea tree), to cleanse and disinfect the air
In a bowl, mix the bicarbonate with the lemon zest. If you want an extra fragrant touch, incorporate essential oils. Sprinkle generously on the surface to be treated, leave to act for 30 minutes, then vacuum. Bicarbonate neutralizes odors while lemon provides natural freshness.
Diffusion of deodorizing essential oils
If the bad smells are impregnated in textiles, but also throughout your home, you can use the essential oils in diffusion in your interior.
For a dry diffuser, mix 9 drops ofpeppermint essential oil with 3 mL of lemongrass essential oil and 7 mL ofsweet orange essence. Diffuse this mixture for 30 minutes, near your textiles. Essential oils go both deodorize and sanitize your interior.
Organic Peppermint essential oil
Organic Peppermint essential oil is an essential oil that contains both menthol and menthone (a ketone).
