We have seen an interesting increase in the new operating systems for Apple devices. The Apple Watch has been graced with new features that can be useful in the lives of users. Now that the public beta version is available, we will highlight 5 features that are worth trying out.
watchOS 11 brings lots of new features to your wrist
There is little doubt these days about the value that the Apple Watch brings to the lives of its users. In addition to being a great timekeeper, it is a guardian of vital signs and a great tool for monitoring leisure and sporting activities.
The watchOS 11 public beta released on Monday, July 15, allows users who are going to test it to already explore many of the new features that will only come out in September for the general public.
Remember that by using this beta version, you are using an unfinished system that is prone to bugs. Therefore, make backups to safeguard anything you don't want to lose. That said, let's look at the 5 new features we want to highlight right now.
The watchOS 11 public beta is compatible with Apple Watch Series 6 through 9, as well as the Apple Watch Ultra and Ultra 2. The second-generation Apple Watch SE is also receiving watchOS 11.
1. New translation application
A new translation app, specifically the Apple Translate app, is coming to watchOS 11. Apple Translate, which debuted in iOS 14 about four years ago, lets users speak one language before it's translated into another.
While the Translate app isn't new to iPhone, watchOS 11 marks the first time it's appeared on an Apple Watch.
As a frequent traveler, this is much more convenient than having a bulky phone in your hand to help break down language barriers. With this app on your wrist, you can easily get help translating foreign languages into your native language.
To use, simply search for the Translate applicationtap the icon three dots in the upper left corner and select Downloaded languages.
This will allow you to choose from 20 languages to download, forcing you to be picky about which languages you want to add to the Translate app. Then just speak to the app and it will translate!
2. Double tap to scroll
Introduced with Apple Watch Series 9, Double Tap lets you pinch your fingers together to answer calls, stop timers, play and pause music, and more.
Now with WatchOS 11, you can use the double-tap gesture to scroll through multi-page apps. Try it with apps like Activity, Music, Vitals, and more.
3. Sleep tracking can now detect naps
Before watchOS 11, your Apple Watch didn’t track daytime naps. Now, with watchOS 11, it can intelligently and automatically detect when you’re taking a nap and track the duration (even if Bedtime Mode isn’t turned on).
These detections are important to get a more accurate idea of how much time you spend resting. In addition, it also shows the quality of your sleep and the naps you take during the day.
The data collected enriches the information that can be added to the Health application.
4. Training check
The Verification feature, first introduced on the iPhone, is the embodiment of the "text me when you get home" scenario. This feature allows a trusted user to know when they've arrived at their destination without much effort on their part.
Now, Apple is introducing Workout Checkup with watchOS 11, which lets others follow along while you’re working out. If anything happens (for example, your heart rate drops abnormally or your speed increases dramatically), you’ll get a message on your Apple Watch.
If you do not respond, the person you are doing the System Verification on will be notified.
To access this option, swipe right after starting a workout in the Training application. Then scroll down and tap on "Verification".
5. Start time and information about your place at the events
Let's say you bought tickets to see a football game or a music concert, and the tickets are saved in Apple Wallet. As the showtime approaches, a Live Activity appears at the top of your Smart Stack (Smart Stack), showing you all the important details you need right on your wrist, including venue information and venue opening hours.
You can also get updates on the whereabouts of your rideshare — and whether your Uber has arrived yet. See more examples and how it all works here.
These are just some of the many new features. We have more, check out our section dedicated to the most popular wearable on the smartwatch market.
