House plants are a wonderful way to enrich our space, bring nature into the home and create a pleasant atmosphere. Their beauty, fragrance and air benefits make them a favorite addition to every home. However, while plants provide many benefits, certain species can attract pests that can threaten their healthy growth. Whether it’s popular houseplants like aloe vera, peonies or succulents, it’s important to be careful and watch for signs of the presence of insects in order to ensure the health of the plants and preserve the beauty of our space.
ALOE VERA
At the very top of the list of plants that are most loved, is certainly aloe vera. This plant is a favorite for its medicinal and cooling properties, as well as for its incredible resistance to different conditions. Aloe vera is easy to grow and does not require much attention.
However, it is important to note that it can attract insects, especially mosquitoes, if overwatered. To preserve your precious aloe vera plants, make sure the soil is dry to avoid mosquitoes.
VEGETABLES
It’s no surprise that indoor vegetables, especially tomatoes and onions, can attract pests to your plants and into your home. Indoor gardens are particularly attractive to aphids and whiteflies, whose populations can quickly increase.
It is best to monitor your vegetables regularly and wash them carefully with your hands to remove insects. It is recommended that you inspect your indoor garden at least once a week to keep it healthy.
FERN
We love ferns for their stunning beauty and beautiful large leaves. These plants thrive in high humidity and require more water than most indoor plants. Overwatering can, of course, attract unwanted guests like mealybugs and spider mites.
To get rid of insects on the fern, simply spray it with warm water and carefully remove all the pests. As already mentioned, we recommend that you monitor the condition of your indoor plants regularly, at least once a week.
PEONY
Peonies are truly beautiful and can add a wonderful charm to your indoor garden or patio, but they are also notorious for attracting pests. For example, they often attract ants, which you definitely don’t want in your home, especially in the kitchen.
To get rid of these pesky little bugs, pay attention to the stems – turn them upside down and shake them gently to free the ants from the flowers. You can also hand wash your peonies to remove any stubborn ants that may have taken hold.
SUCCULENTS
Succulents are popular for their ease of cultivation. They do not require much water and can survive without direct sunlight. In addition, they bring a warm and inviting charm to every small space in your home.
However, some succulents, especially those that secrete a sweet sap, can attract insects such as mealybugs and ants.
The most common signs that pests are attacking your succulents are holes in the leaves or stems, as well as overcrowded or discolored roots. If you notice these changes, it’s a sure sign that your succulents are affected. To combat insects on succulents, it is recommended to spray the plant with a mixture of alcohol and water, which will immediately eliminate pests.
Another tip is to keep your succulent as dry as possible – insects love moisture, so the drier the soil, the better for your plant.
