Get more out of your Samsung phone with these handy settings. This way you can create shortcuts, navigate better and personalize even more.
You will want to use these tips immediately on your Samsung
Have you just got a new Samsung or do you want to get the most out of your current phone? Then check out these five useful settings below. These are editors’ favorites, so please let us know which Samsung features you like. You can respond at the bottom of this page.
1. (Get rid of that) Edge Window
A well-known Samsung feature is the Edge window. This menu – which, as it were, floats over your smartphone screen – is set by default and has several useful shortcuts. Yet opinions are divided. Some people find the Edge window in the way, others think it’s great.
Not much of a fan? Then you can easily switch it off. Swipe from the top right to the left to reveal the window. Then click on the gear icon on the left below the pop-up. Then select the arrow to the left of “Windows” and turn off the switch next to “Edge Windows.” The menu is now no longer visible.
Do you like it? Then you can adjust which apps are in the window. To do this, open it again and click on the gear icon again. In this menu you choose different pages for the Edge window and in the Galaxy Store (via the button at the bottom of the screen) you download windows from other users.
2. Reset Bixby button
Although Samsung has a good collaboration with Google, the manufacturer is still focusing on its own smart assistant: Bixby. Although you usually don’t notice much of the Samsung AI assistant, it is located under an important shortcut key. If you press the power button for a long time, Bixby will appear.
You would think that if you hold down the power button for a long time, your phone will turn itself off. Fortunately, this can be easily adjusted. Open the Settings app on your Samsung, go to ‘Advanced Feature’ and choose ‘Side Button’. Here you set your phone to show the ‘Switch off menu’ when you press and hold the power button. You can also add an app shortcut when double-clicking the power button.
3. Quickly go to your quick settings
Many important settings can be found in the ‘Quick Settings Menu’ (also called Quick Settings Panel). For example, consider your hotspot, screen rotation, battery sharing and much more. To get to this quick settings menu, swipe down twice from the top. That is sometimes a bit inconvenient, so there are easier ways to do this.
The simplest is to swipe with two fingers from the top of your screen. You will then immediately see all the quick settings. You can also click the pencil icon in this menu, then choose Quick Settings and toggle the switch. If you now swipe down from the top right, you will enter the quick settings. If you swipe down from the middle or top left, you will see your notifications.
4. Set navigation bar
To really use your Samsung, you want to be able to navigate through menus quickly. Samsung Galaxy A devices have three buttons at the bottom of the screen as standard. More expensive S devices work on swipe gestures out of the box.
Do you have one phone and would you rather control the other? Then it is set that way. Open the settings app on your Samsung and go to ‘Display’, choose ‘Navigation bar’ and select ‘Buttons’ or ‘Swipe gestures.
5. Install Good Lock
Finally, a recommendation for anyone with a Samsung smartphone who wants to get the most out of it. Go to the Galaxy Store, log in with your Samsung account and download the ‘Good Lock’ app. This is a collection point for useful additional personalization options. You can’t imagine anything so crazy and Good Lock has a function for it. This way you can completely customize your home screen to your preference or set up advanced routines, as in the video above
