5 WhatsApp tips to get more out of the app for iPhone and Android

WhatsApp is one of the largest apps in the world with more than 2 billion active users per day. For many people, the chat app for Android and iOS is the communication tool they use to stay in touch with friends, family and colleagues on a daily basis. But do they get the most out of it?

Although WhatsApp remains a simple chat app at its core, there are plenty of things that you as a user can adjust. From the way you display text to messages that disappear after 24 hours: it is all possible.

That is why we have listed 5 tips for you to help you get the most out of WhatsApp. Here they are.

#1 Make messages disappear automatically on WhatsApp

Snapchat is the preferred chat app for some people because messages disappear after a certain time. This means you don’t build up a chat history, which can be useful in some cases.

What not many people know is that WhatsApp also offers such a function. Via Institutions in Privacy can you get the Standard timer set for messages. This starts new conversations in which the messages only remain visible for a certain period of time.

You can set the timer to 24 hours, seven days or ninety days.

#2 Edit and delete messages

Some time ago, WhatsApp made it possible to edit messages after you sent them. It was already possible to delete messages for yourself, but since that update you can also delete messages for the recipient up to 15 minutes after sending. You do this by holding down the message and clicking delete. Then you select Delete for everyone.

It is also possible to change the content of a message. By pressing and holding the message and pressing To process By clicking, you can quickly correct typos, strange comments or stupid jokes.

#3 Texts on WhatsApp change style

The font on WhatsApp is the same for most people and will remain that way for a while. What not many people know is that the style of the text can be adjusted independently. For example, it is possible to send text in bold, italics or strikethrough to contacts.

In the video below we show you exactly how to do that.

#4 Chats under lock and key

It has been possible to sort conversations within WhatsApp for some time now. Filters allow you to show only unread and favorite chats or group conversations. It is even possible to create your own list to create the overview you want.

However, if you do not want certain conversations to be visible at all, it is possible to lock them. You do this by pressing and holding a conversation and selecting the option Lock chat to select. You then create a unique code.

From now on, you can use that code to reveal the locked conversations, although it is of course also possible to unlock them with your fingerprint or facial recognition. You set that via Instellingen -> Privacy in App lock in.

#5 Send video messages via WhatsApp

It is of course possible to call via WhatsApp with both an audio and a video connection. You can also send short video messages via the app.

You do this by pressing and holding the camera icon. The app will then start counting down and you can record and send the message.
