7 billion dollar remittances came in 3 months

Bangladesh has received over 7 billion US dollars in remittances from expatriate citizens in the last three months.

According to reports on the progress of various ministries and departments, “Bangladesh expatriates sent remittances of 7.02 billion US dollars in the last three months”.

A total of 2,22,821 Bangladeshi workers went abroad in the last three months. Among them, 4 thousand 426 workers have gone to different countries under Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited.

Highlighting the activities of the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment, the report said that the interim government has given three lakh rupees each to the families of migrant workers who died abroad.

According to the report, Rs 1.88 crore has been disbursed to the injured and sick workers as financial assistance for their treatment. A total of Rs 4.32 crore has been paid to the families of migrant workers who died abroad as repatriation and cremation expenses.

Also, insurance money of Tk 12.39 crore has been distributed among the families of workers who died abroad in the last three months. About Tk 1.97 crore has been distributed as educational assistance to meritorious children of migrant workers.

According to sources, a total of Tk 216.33 crore has been distributed among 9,989 migrant workers as housing loans from Pravasi Kalyan Bank. Loans of Tk 22.89 crore have been disbursed to 811 expatriate workers from the rehabilitation loan sector.

The authorities concerned have taken the initiative to launch a digital platform for coordination of work related to expatriate employment, where expatriate support centers have been launched to resolve grievances and provide assistance to migrant workers.

Meanwhile, on 5 October 2024, the Wage Earners Welfare Board (WEWB) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) with the Malaysian Social Security Board (PERKESO) so that Bangladeshi migrant workers in Malaysia can avail various benefits through PERKESO. Source: Bass.
