7 major characters from JK Rowling’s universe forgotten in the films

The film adaptation of the saga Harry Potter was a real thunderbolt in the landscape of the 7th art and its qualities are undeniable. However, it must be recognized that for a reader of JK Rowling’s novels, these cinema versions of the adventures of the young wizard with glasses are not perfect; some characters were simply deleted from the story. This is why we are returning to seven of them today.

#1 Charles Weasley

Often called Charlie, this character is none other than the second son of Arthur and Molly Weasley. He is mentioned several times during the saga as a specialist in dragons, which he had the opportunity to study in Romania. It is to him that young Norbert from Hagrid is sent in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – to be exact, we later learn that she is in fact a dragoness and she is renamed Norberta. We then see it in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix where he joined the Order and in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows where he witnesses his brother Bill’s marriage to Fleur and later participates in the Battle of Hogwarts.

#2 Alice Londubat

Neville’s mother is a witch who fought Lord Voldemort during the First Wizarding War in the 1970s before ending up tortured to the point of losing her mind by Bellatrix Lestrange and Barty Crouch Jr. It’s in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix that we discover her for the first time, when her son comes to visit his parents at Saint Mungo’s hospital.

#3 Frank Londubat

Just like his wife, Frank fought hard against the Dark Lord and ended up like this in St. Mungo’s Hospital. Neville comes to see them during his fifth year and it is a real heartbreak for him to see his parents who are only shadows of themselves. This couple of wizards unfortunately only appears in photos in the films and that’s a shame, because it would have brought depth to Neville’s character.

#4 Cuthbert Binns

The Hogwarts History of Magic Professor is introduced to us in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Cuthbert Binns is the only teacher at the school who is a ghost. According to legend, he dozed off in front of the fire during his lifetime and never realized he was dead. His classes are deadly boring, which makes most of the students at the school have a hard time following his classes and this may be the reason why he does not appear in the films.

#5 Peeves

The poltergeist of the wizarding school is very present in the books, from the first volume of young Harry’s adventures. This ghost spends his time playing tricks and annoying students, like the professors at Hogwarts. Despite the fact that much of the school considers him a pest, Peeves will still take part in the great battle of Hogwarts and help defend the school against the forces of Lord Voldemort.

#6 Merope Gaunt

This woman only appears in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Princewhen Harry and Albus Dumbledore use the Pensieve to study the past of young Tom Elvis Riddle and his family. The mother of the future Dark Lord gave a love filter to a young muggle she was in love with in order to start a family and unfortunately, it ended very badly since she died shortly after the birth of her son and that her husband never truly loved her. A very sad chapter which would have been particularly interesting to see in the film.

#7 Phineas Black

This ancestor of Sirius Black only appears in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix through his painting, but his role is no less important. Phineas Black is a former headmaster of Hogwarts whose portrait is in Headmaster Dumbledore’s office and another at 12 Grimmauld Place. It is through this stratagem that Albus manages to communicate with the headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix and even if it was not necessarily necessary, it would have been good to see him in the cinematographic adaptation of the adventures of the young wizard.

Tell us in the comments section which other forgotten characters from the films you would have liked to see on screen and which one struck you the most in JK Rowling’s novels. Even if nothing is certain, it’s a safe bet that we will finally have the honor of discovering them in the future series produced by HBO. In the meantime, don’t miss out on discovering the 7 best potions in the wizarding universe.
