A majority of French people want the wealth tax to be more burdensome
According to a YouGov survey for HuffPost, 68% of French people believe that the wealthiest households should be called upon more to balance public finances. This view is shared by voters across the political spectrum, reflecting a national consensus on the need for tax reform.
Furthermore, 72% of respondents said they were in favor of an increase in the wealth tax, recently reinstated by the government. This measure is seen as an effective lever for financing public services and social spending, particularly in times of economic crisis.
In addition, 65% of French people support the idea of increased taxation of large companies, particularly those in the technology sector, accused of tax optimization practices. This position illustrates a desire to make multinationals responsible and to guarantee fair competition.

The French are demanding a more transparent and equitable budgetary policy
However, 54% of those surveyed express fears about the potential impact of these measures on investment and employment. They fear that taxes that are too high will encourage wealthy people and companies to relocate their activities, thus weakening the national economy.
Despite these concerns, 59% of respondents consider that an ambitious tax reform is essential to restore confidence in institutions and strengthen social cohesion. They call for a more transparent and equitable budgetary policy, capable of responding to contemporary challenges.
These data highlight a growing demand for tax justice in France. Citizens seem ready to support reforms aimed at a more equitable distribution of financial effort, while remaining vigilant as to the potential economic consequences.
