87-meter Leningrad Victory ribbon unfurled in St. Petersburg

In the Athletics Arena on Krestovsky Island, the banner was held by 300 volunteers, among whom were many schoolchildren and cadets of cadet classes. The length of the ribbon is 87 meters, the width is two meters. It combines two colors – green and olive, as on the medal “For the Defense of Leningrad”.

Throughout the past year, participants in the event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Leningrad from the siege have been putting the names of the city’s residents and defenders on the Victory ribbon. There are more than 5,000 of them on the banner.

Before the performance in the arena, the film visited educational and social institutions in St. Petersburg, and on January 27, 2024 – the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade – it was presented on Palace Square.

The banner received a certificate from the Russian Book of Records as “the longest hand-painted Leningrad Victory ribbon.”
