Available since March 2015 on PC, GTA Online had never had the right to a maintenance and security update concerning the stability of its servers. Thus, for many years, the online experience on PC was almost unplayable with many sessions invaded of cheaters and modders which completely unbalanced the game. Nine years after the game’s release, this may well (and finally) be ancient history thanks to the arrival of this new update.
GTA Online: BattlEye finally arrives on PC
Yesterday, to celebrate Grand Theft Auto V 11th Anniversary (and therefore GTA Online), Rockstar Games has released a new update on PC allowing to add and BattlEye in online mode. This is a programme anti-cheat well known in the world of video games since many major titles use it as Rainbow Six Siege, DayZ or even PUBG.
The goal of BattlEye is to analyze players’ PCs in order to detect cheat programs even before they arrive at a session. The program allows target and even permanently ban problem players in order to offer stable and above all fair gaming sessions allowing all players to enjoy the experience as it should be.
Of course, the BattlEye is one solution among many that will help contain the problem and improve the situation. Unfortunately, not all systems are foolproof and there is a good chance that This does not solve all the problems.. Also, you should know that BattlEye is not compatible with some mods (ReShade and Special_K) as well as some anti-viruses (like AVG and Trend Micro). The program is not compatible with the Steam Deck either.
So there is a good chance that GTA Online sessions on PC are not completely cleaned. However, it is certain that adding an anti-cheat will greatly improve the gaming experience. Too bad this is happening after 9 years. According to the first rumorsthis decision would be the first step in the arrival of GTA V Next-Gen (PS5/Xbox Series X/S) on PC by the end of the year, allowing the addition of graphical improvements, Ray Tracing, but also new careers and Hao’s garage on PC. To be continued!
