The Junts councillor who denounced Senator Eduard Pujol asks for forgiveness for falsely accusing him of harassment

Junts councillor in Pineda de Mar (Barcelona) Noemí Llorens, who reported former member of Parliament and current senator of the party Eduard Pujol to the party, has admitted that she falsely accused him of harassment and has asked the politician for forgiveness, who has accepted the apology.

As he has anticipated The Country As confirmed by this newspaper, Llorens has submitted a document to the court in which she apologizes to the senator and declares that she felt “manipulated” by some Junts leaders, who she does not specify, but who, according to the councilor’s version, used her case to “harm the politician for political purposes.”

The case of the Junts senator, former director of RAC-1 and one of the independents who formed part of Puigdemont’s party lists in the December 2017 elections, has taken a judicial turn. From alleged accuser, he has become a victim of slander and false accusations by two women. In November 2020, he was summarily dismissed, and it was not until 2022 that he was dismissed due to the inconsistency of the accusations that the two women channeled internally within the party.

The councillor and Pujol had a romantic relationship and exchanged several WhatsApp messages “of an emotional and even erotic nature” until the former MP decided to “distance himself” from the councillor in October 2019, according to the judge who left Llorens one step away from trial for slandering the now senator.

Since Pujol has retracted his apology and accepted it, Llorens will not have to go to court. However, the other woman who Pujol accused of slander after accusing him of harassment will have to sit in the dock.

The councillor went to the Catalan Institute for Women (ICD) to report Pujol for sexual harassment. However, the organisation did not respond to the woman’s complaint nor did it provide her with advice on how to take it to court, as it did not give her credibility. The councillor then went to the party.

The only name mentioned in the letter from Junts is Aurora Madaula, who was then responsible for feminism in the party. “Madaula convinced me that Pujol’s actions constituted a crime of harassment and encouraged me to report it to the party and to the courts,” Llorens explains in her letter, although she never filed a formal complaint. “The situation got the better of me and over time I felt manipulated,” the letter adds.

Speaking to RAC-1, the senator’s lawyer, Judit Gené, regretted the damage caused to Pujol by the false accusations and hoped that the apology issued by the councillor would be a step towards repairing it. “His name appeared in all the newspapers and on television, causing a terrible impact on his honour,” said the lawyer.
