Mindaugas Grotuzas said that he had dived in this quarry before. As the diver said, he has had to find various finds in water bodies, but he has not found an explosive so far.
“The explosion was about four, five meters from the shore, at a depth of three meters. Anyway, I have found quite a few finds – all kinds of “wobblers” left by fishermen, mobile phones, tires, I have even found a microwave oven. The closer to the shore, the more all kinds of garbage.
I believe this explosive was brought here and thrown into the water. Most likely, someone found it while digging or plowing the fields, didn’t want to call the services, so threw it into the water. Because it can be seen that the explosive was in the water recently. Not covered with silt. And by the way, I have dived in that place before, I would definitely have noticed it”, said Mindaugas Grotuzas.
The diver reported such a find on the general emergency telephone. All special services arrived at the scene, the “Shield” plan was introduced. Finally, the deminers who arrived decided not to move the explosive and entrusted this operation to “Aro” divers.
“I marked the place and the services stayed to guard it. As far as I understood, they planned to detonate on the spot,” said the diver.
According to the diver, this explosive is probably a mortar shell.
