Czech coronation jewels are on display in the Vladislav Hall of Prague Castle from today until the end of September. This year’s exhibition is subtitled The Mysterious Power of Stones, and thanks to holographic animation, visitors will see what stones were on the crown in 1347 during the coronation of Charles IV. The exhibition is accessible free of charge and it is not possible to purchase or reserve tickets for it in advance.
Originally, there were 13 green emeralds and 60 pearls on the Crown of St. Wenceslas, Charles IV left them at the end of his life. removed and had the crown set with blue sapphires. In the animation, visitors will see the original appearance of the crown.
The exhibition will be open from 09:00 to 17:00. The exceptions will be Thursday, September 19, when only registered school groups will be able to access it, and Thursday, September 26, when the exhibition will not open to the public until 1:00 p.m.
After a year, together with the crown, the royal scepter, apple and other ceremonial insignia will be on display. President Petr Pavel decided that the jewelry exhibition will be held every year on the occasion of the national holiday of St. Wenceslas, which falls on September 28.
The jewels can only be removed from the Crown Chamber, where they are stored for a long time, if all seven key chains are found. They are the president and prime minister, the presidents of both parliamentary chambers, the archbishop of Prague, the provost of the St. Vitus chapter and the mayor of the capital. It is also used to lock the door to the chamber.
