The new cabinet has little encouraging news for online gambling companies. Next year, the gambling tax will increase from 30.5 percent now to 37.8 percent. Director Petra de Ruiter of Holland Casino say that the company will be forced to launch aggressive campaigns to recruit gamblers and still make a profit.
The budget states that the gambling tax will be increased in two steps to 37.8 percent. With this, the government expects to raise 202 million euros annually.
On January 1, 2025, the gambling tax will be increased to 34.2 percent. A year later, the tax rate will be increased to the announced 37.8 percent.
With higher rates there is a chance that there will be a shift towards illegal supply again.
Black figures are therefore not possible. The increase of 1 percentage point that was implemented this year also cost the casino company an extra 3.7 million euros, says De Ruiter of Holland Casino.
The day before Prinsjesdag, online provider of bingo tombola announced that the gambling site would stop operating in the Netherlands as of October 1, 2024. The tax increase and implemented measures regarding playing limits make the tombola too difficult.
