Ford is introducing a new karaoke app for its electric vehicles, hoping people will sing along while they wait for their F-150 Lightning or Mustang Mach-E to charge.
Of course, you could go out for a coffee, take a walk or update your social media while your electric car charges, but Ford is now introducing the ability to kill time with karaoke. This allows you to perform songs in your car without disturbing anyone else (unless you’re not alone in the car).
From romantic fireside to DJ skills
Karaoke is only possible in park mode, as is often the case with games you can play in your car. For example, Tesla has the option to light a virtual fireplace or practice your DJ skills with Trax, while your car is in park.
At Ford, they think you like to sing along to the music and therefore offer Stingray Karaoke. It is not very easy to get to if you want to use it while driving, for example, although it is not easy. Your front passenger can scan the QR code that is displayed when switching on the karaoke mode to choose a song or use a playlist. That front passenger can immediately add songs to the playlist and read the lyrics via the Stingray app. When parking, you do this yourself as a driver.
Stingray App
The Stingray App will come to the car via a software update from Ford, rolling out first to eligible F-150 Lightning cars and soon after to Mustang Mach-E cars in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Europe.
