(Health Korea News / Yu Ji-in) ‘Medical 24 Hours’ is a corner that shows brief news related to the medical field that can easily be overlooked in the media at a glance. It may seem like trivial news, but it can be valuable information to someone, so we summarize only the facts.
Medicheck Korea Health Management Association, Drug Screening Test Drug Test
The Korea Health Management Association has been conducting a drug test (drug screening test) using mass spectrometry since July 8 to supplement the limited detection of drugs and somewhat low accuracy of the currently mainly used TBPE drug test. The drug test is a test method that can detect dozens of drugs, including cocaine, opium, marijuana, methamphetamine, amphetamine, ecstasy, and ketamine.
As drug problems have recently become a social issue, the government is conducting drug tests on civil servants, those obtaining teaching licenses, visas, and those subject to military service to prevent health and safety problems.
The Korea Health Industry Development Institute has introduced a drug test for screening tests used in confirmatory testing to ensure the accuracy of diagnosis reports required for employment and visa issuance.
Anyone can take the drug test at any of the 17 health promotion centers of the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. When applying, dozens of detectable drugs are divided into groups of 4 or 6 so that you can choose according to the requirements of each diagnosis certificate.

Severance Hospital, #1 in Brand Customer Satisfaction Survey
Severance Hospital was selected as first place in the general hospital category at the ‘2024 Brand Customer Satisfaction’ awards ceremony held at Lotte Hotel World in Jamsil on the 19th.
The Brand Customer Satisfaction Index (BCSI) is a nationwide survey conducted annually by the Korea Marketing Association and Consumer Evaluation, an evaluation specialist organization, and is an indicator that predicts a brand’s future purchasing competitiveness.
The BCSI survey, now in its 10th year, measured consumer confidence by surveying 3,000 consumers from April 1 to 30 across businesses in 99 industries (50 consumer goods, 19 durable goods, and 30 services).
The overall score based on the survey results was calculated by adding together the scores for overall satisfaction, service quality, price, design, and repurchase intention.
Severance Hospital received the highest score in the ‘service quality’ and ‘repurchase’ categories among the survey models. In particular, it was evaluated that it created a patient-centered service environment by improving the convenience of hospital use through digital technology and providing feedback by constantly collecting opinions from patients.
Severance Hospital, which was the first in Korea to introduce the concept of ‘patient experience’ to hospital management in 2012, has changed all aspects of hospital treatment, including outpatient and ward treatment, so that patients can have a positive service experience.
A representative example of this is the ‘Honey Sleep Project’. Not only did they provide honey sleep packages (earplugs, sleep masks, etc.) to help patients sleep well, but they also created a restful atmosphere in the ward by broadcasting sleep guidance in the evening.
We receive feedback by sending KakaoTalk notifications after treatment is completed in all stages that patients experience at the hospital, including hospitalization, outpatient treatment, and emergency room treatment. The major opinions received in this way are regularly discussed at the weekly hospital management meeting. After the meeting, a department in charge of problem solving is designated, and all members work together to improve the problem.
Severance Hospital is also leading the way in the role of a general hospital in the treatment of critically ill patients. It was the first in Korea to start ion therapy and recently began treatment of pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, and lung cancer, which are considered incurable cancers. In addition, it achieved 40,000 cases of robotic surgery, a cutting-edge surgical technique, last year, the first in the world.

Jeonbuk National University Hospital Nursing Companion Service ‘GO WITH YOU’ in progress
To improve the quality of medical services and customer satisfaction, Jeonbuk National University Hospital has been implementing the nursing companion service ‘GO WITH YOU’ since early April this year.
‘GO WITH YOU’ is a service that selects vulnerable groups who are having difficulties due to complicated medical procedures and provides assistance in using the hospital by having nursing staff accompany them.
In order to provide effective companion services, the nursing department has created a shared companion channel between departments, and nurses are accompanying patients. The number of users of the companion service ‘GO WITH YOU’ is 15 in April, 37 in May, and 38 in June, showing that more and more patients are using the companion service.
According to Statistics Korea, as of March 2023, the elderly population ratio in the Jeonbuk region is 23.4%, and most patients are elderly and in poor health and are visiting hospitals without a guardian. Patients who visit the hospital will hear an explanation of the treatment process from the doctor during the examination, and after the examination, they will receive guidance on the future schedule from the nurse.
Patients who visit the hospital without a guardian and with a disability tend to stay in the hospital for a long time, wandering around the large hospital to find a treatment department, and this increases their dissatisfaction and anxiety about using the hospital. In order to relieve these patients’ discomfort and improve the quality of medical services, the nursing department of Jeonbuk National University Hospital is implementing the accompanying service ‘GO WITH YOU’.
