Average CSI value increased by 51% to 233 euros – Social Security

The average value of the solidarity supplement for the elderly (CSI) rose 50.9% in June, year-on-year, to an average of 233 euros per monthreflecting increases in the reference value.

“The average value of the benefit was 233.06 euros, in June 2024, which represents an increase of 50.9% compared to the same period last year, reflecting the impact of the increases in the reference value” of the ordinances that took effect in January e in June, according to the Social Security Statistical Information Summary, published this Friday.

The ordinance published by the previous executive, effective January, increased the reference value of the solidarity supplement for the elderly (CSI) by 12.7%, to 6,608 euros per year.

The new Government, which is committed to increasing this anti-poverty benefit to 820 euros in 2028, has approved a new interim increase that is unusual, taking effect in June. The increase was 9.1%, to 7,208 euros per year..

At the same time, the consideration of children’s income, which still remained in one of the brackets, was eliminated.

The CSI is a differential benefit whose value depends on the pensioners’ income. Increasing the reference value can therefore both increase the amount allocated and increase the number of beneficiaries.

Beneficiaries increase by 9.1%

Regarding the number of people covered, the increase was 2.7% compared to May, equivalent to 3.7 thousand beneficiaries. Compared to the same period last year, the increase was 9.1%, or another 11,836 beneficiaries.

There are currently 141,600 CSI beneficiaries. More than two-thirds (69%) are women.

Even with this recovery, the number of CSI beneficiaries remains below what was recorded until the middle of last year, when a reassessment of beneficiaries’ income resulted in a historic drop.
