Ken Griffin buys rare stegosaurus fossil for record price at Sotheby’s auction

Billionaire investor Ken Griffin was the highest bidder for the largest and best stegosaurus fossil ever discovered, which was sold at a Sotheby’s auction in New York on Wednesday. The record price reached $44.6 million, making it the most expensive of its kind ever offered at auction.

The rare find, named ‘Apex’ and exceeding estimates by more than 11 times, is a nearly complete skeleton consisting of 319 bones and dating back more than 150 million years. It is 3.4 meters tall and 8.2 meters long from the snout to the tip of its tail.
