Google wants to clean up the Play Store and will remove unnecessary apps

The Android universe has a very wide range of apps that are available on the Play Store. This could be a guarantee of quality, something that often does not happen. Google now wants to clean up its app store and has created rules to do so. The result is that many unnecessary apps will be removed.

Google has announced that it has increased the standards for publishing apps that it will host on the Play Store. These new rules require apps to be truly functional and run stably. This will lead to many apps being simply removed from the Play Store.

Google updated its Play Store policies on July 17, stating that apps must provide a stable, fast, and easy-to-use experience. If an app crashes frequently, lacks basic functionality, or doesn’t offer engaging content, it won’t be allowed to be published on the Play Store. This new policy will go into effect on August 31, 2024.

These restrictions from Google target apps that have limited functionality and content, crash frequently, or respond slowly. For example, static apps that are just text or PDF files, apps that have little content and don’t offer an engaging user experience (a single wallpaper app), and apps that have no functionality at all will be subject to these new rules.

Google has stressed that there must be no crashes, freezes or other functional anomalies in apps to be published on the Play Store. Apps that have installation issues, do not work when installed or respond very slowly will not be available on the Play Store.

According to information published by Google on its security blog, Android apps that violated 2.28 million policies on the Play Store in 2023 were removed from publication. In addition, 333,000 accounts were terminated for installing malware or serious policy violations, and 200,000 apps had inappropriate permission requests denied or fixed.

This change by Google is important for Android and its users. By ensuring that the store offers higher quality apps, users gain greater trust and are therefore more likely to install more of the apps available on the Play Store.
