The United Left of Valencia (EUPV) has denounced the threats received by the mayor of Aspe (Alicante), Antonio Puerto, and the fire in his father’s van this past night for reasons that are under investigation.
“These serious events occurred weeks after our colleague Antonio reported a series of threats and coercion against him and his family,” EUPV said in a statement.
The general coordinator of the party, Rosa Pérez Garijo, says: “It cannot be that our public officials suffer persecution, threats or coercion simply for fulfilling their obligation and looking after the general interest.”
Esquerra Unida has also praised the mayor’s management, “working for the benefit of the social majority of Aspe, without taking a step back, despite the pressures.”
