“The risk is serious”: In America they fear that Trump could take the country out of NATO

There is a high probability that America will leave NATO if Republican Donald Trump wins the presidential election, according to former White House adviser John Bolton.

In his words, in 2018, Trump “was one step away from leaving the Alliance”.

– He does not understand the essence of NATO. He sees the Alliance as follows: America provides services in the defense sphere to a bunch of ungrateful Europeans who don’t pay for it. I think that if it was up to him, he would leave the Alliance. I think there is a serious risk here – Bolton said to “Em-S-N-B-C”.

Previously, Bolton said that the withdrawal of the US from NATO would be a catastrophic mistake by Washington, and that it would result in instability in the North Atlantic zone and call into question the commitment of the US to its obligations to allies around the world. That would put an end to the most successful military-political alliance in the history of mankind, he believes.

Earlier, experts pointed out that Trump, in case of victory in the elections, could weaken NATO, even if the USA does not leave the Alliance. He repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with the work of that alliance, reports Sputnik. If he wins the election, he has threatened to withdraw the US from NATO if European partners do not take greater financial responsibility for their own security.
