New rules will mean that an unknown number of apps will be deleted from the Google Play Store
On August 31, Google’s new rules for its app store Play Store come into force, which will result in an as yet unknown number of apps disappearing from the store. The rules will bring increased security, and the removal of so-called junk apps should give users better quality of the apps that remain.
The new rules mean that applications that consist only of text or single background images, as well as those that do not work properly on startup and crash or hang, will be removed. It is not yet clear how many applications will be affected.
However, Google is no stranger to letting the broom work. This year alone, it has deleted nearly 700,000 apps from the store, and since 2021, it has cleaned more than 1.3 million apps. At the moment there are approximately 1.7 million apps in the Play Store, how many of these will remain this fall remains to be seen.
