Figma AI creates apps with AI, the problem is that they are a clone of Apple’s apps for the iPhone
Artificial intelligence is one of the best and most innovative technologies that have arrived in recent years, with applications in numerous functions of our daily lives. You only have to see how Apple has bet everything on Apple Intelligence. But there are many options on the market to use AI, one of them is Figma AI that helps design apps with artificial intelligence.
This sounds promising, but there have been some very significant issues. A developer has asked Figma AI to create a weather app, and the result has always been the same: An app that looks like a clone of the iPhone’s Weather app. Could it be that the design of the iPhone’s Weather app is unbeatable?
This developer pointed out that this could be very dangerous and lead to legal problems, Apple could take action if an app that looks like a clone of its own is released. After the mishap, Figma immediately disabled the Make Design feature until a full investigation could be completed.
Figma AI looks rather heavily trained on existing apps.

Figma AI officially responds
Figma CEO Dylan Field has responded, stating that AI is not trained with existing application designbut there is a problem with the “underlying design systems” – something that has caused the option to create apps to be disabled.
Shortly after, the company described what happened and how they are working to fix it:
We carefully reviewed the underlying design systems throughout development and during a private beta. But in the week leading up to Config, new components and example screens were added that we simply didn’t examine carefully enough. Some of those assets were similar to aspects of real-world apps, and appeared in the feature output with certain cues. We first became aware of the problem when Andy Allen, a designer speaking at Config, pointed out that asking Make Designs for a weather app resulted in designs that felt very similar to Apple’s first-party app.
Figma is attributing the bug to some last-minute additions to its design systems, however It is quite curious that the apps created are so similar to those of Apple. Also, if that is the explanation, solving the problem should be very simple by deleting those files, but for the moment the function remains disabled.
Las Apple apps have always been characterized by their good designso it’s no surprise that they set the example for the rest. However, when it comes to training AI models, copyright can be very important – I don’t think Apple would like its designs to be copied. Apple Intelligence itself won’t use your data to train itself.
