Farmers and the state “signed a truce”

Representatives of several agricultural associations in Serbia signed a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, which specified the fulfillment of their demands.

The agreement was signed based on an agreement between Minister Aleksandar Martinović and representatives of seven farmers’ associations, which was reached at a meeting on July 18, attended by Prime Minister Miloš Vučević, Speaker of the National Assembly Ana Brnabić and representatives of the Ministry of Finance.

The agreement was signed by representatives of the Association of Farmers “STIG” Požarevac, the Association of Farmers “Severni Banat-Kikinda”, the Association of Milk Producers of Šumadija and Pomoravlje, the Association “Složni Pidikanci” and the Association of Farmers “Brestovački ratar” Banatski Brestovac.

The signing of the agreement was not attended by the representatives of the Association of Milk Producers “Naše mleko” and the Association “For the Rescue and Survival of Livestock Farmers of Western Serbia”, who were at the meeting in the Government.

What was agreed?

It was agreed that farmers will be paid 17,000 dinars per hectare for certified seeds, that a public call for plots on a different basis and a public call for 100,000 dinars per heifer will be published, then the reduction of quotas for the import of milk and milk products, the immediate lifting of the ban on the export of refined and unrefined oil, as well as to conduct a market analysis of the stock exchange and include representatives of seven associations in the drafting of the ten-year strategy for agriculture and rural development.

The agreement agreed that the Ministry of Agriculture should propose changes to the Law on Incentives in Agriculture and Rural Development as soon as possible, so that they are adopted by October 15, 2024 at the latest.

In order to exercise the right to incentives in agriculture, this year a one-time incentive in the amount of 40,000 dinars per head will be paid for raising a quality first-calf breeding cow, and a one-time incentive in the amount of 60,000 dinars per head for raising a quality breeding heifer aged 12 to 24 months. .

Import of milk

It was also agreed that all measures will be taken to import milk by the end of the year in quantities at most equal to the amount of milk imported last year, for the same period, or in smaller quantities, that in the next two months all measures will be taken to improve exports of refined and unrefined sunflower oil, and that a meeting with the largest oil producers will be organized no later than the end of July 2024, at which the Prime Minister will also attend.

By the end of July 2024 at the latest, it will be proposed to form a working group in which there will be representatives of the association for the coordination of activities for the improvement of commodity and market operations with agricultural products.

It was agreed that the agricultural associations that are signatories to the agreement will in the future continue all communication with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management in a peaceful way, without taking to the streets and blockades, and that, in case of compliance with the provisions of the agreement, they will not make additional demands, it is stated in announcement.
