A new heat-related death was recorded in Cyprus on Monday, July 22, after a 67-year-old woman died of heat stroke.
Cyprus, which is one of the favorite destinations of Romanians, is still under a prolonged heat wave, according to Xinhua.net.
According to a spokesman for the state health services, the victim is a 67-year-old woman who died at a medical facility in Nicosia on Sunday afternoon, July 21.
Also, three other women, aged between 25 and 80, are currently at the same hospital.
“The situation has worsened in recent days due to the ongoing heat wave,” the spokesman said, expressing concern that more and more young people were among the victims.
Last week, a young commando recruit was hospitalized in a hospital in France after he collapsed during military training.
Meteorologists in Cyprus reported that June was the hottest month on record so far, with temperatures reaching 44 degrees Celsius.
And currently, temperatures exceed 42 degrees.
The weather service also predicts high temperatures above the normal average of 38 degrees will persist through mid-August.
Several countries in Central and Eastern Europe and the wider eastern Mediterranean region are also suffering from the heatwave.
