Camping prices are skyrocketing – the difference is sick

Camping has become popular among Swedes. Last year was the third biggest year ever for camping according to SCR Swedish Camping, a marketing company and industry organization for Swedish campsites.

According to their research, Sweden’s campsites had over 16.6 million guest nights last year. They believe that around half of all tourists who stay overnight in Sweden choose to stay at a campsite.

– The industry is becoming increasingly international and we see great potential, not least in the German market where we have increased our marketing in recent years, says Martin JuhosCEO of SCR in one press release.

But while interest is increasing, the cost of camping has skyrocketed.

Five times as expensive

Camping has become an expensive business in Sweden. It shows a new review of P4 Kalmar. A night in a mobile home costs just SEK 150 in Germany, while the same experience can cost up to five times as much on Öland.

Experienced camper Christin Worwick from Stockholm believes that it is much cheaper to camp in the rest of Europe. And that the cost of camping on Öland is on the brink of what she tolerates.

– SEK 750 per night is on the limit. If the price goes over SEK 800, then we might as well stay in a hotel, she tells P4 Kalmar.

Increased by 25 percent

According to the review, camping prices in Sweden have increased by 25 percent in five years, which is also confirmed by the Agency for Growth.

– It is clear that there is a pain limit and above all in a situation where the economic climate has been tougher, says Marcus Carlssonmarketing manager at Borgholm’s facilities, to P4 Kalmar.

At some campsites, it can now cost over a thousand for a night in July. One of the reasons for the price increase is the increased development costs for the camping facilities.

– The higher the price we charge, the higher the expectations the guests will have of us as a facility. If we are to remain strong as a destination, we must ensure that we deliver. Preferably above expectations, Marcus Carlsson tells the radio channel.
