Martorell City Council will continue to improve security in the municipality with the addition of four new officers, two corporal positions and the amortization of a sergeant position in the Local Police. The measure also includes an increase in surveillance in points that may be problematic, the installation of more security cameras and the launch of a new mobile and tablet application to speed up contact between agents and local merchants.

In the last Municipal Plenum last July 15, the government and the opposition unanimously approved this point, which involves the creation of a new urgent and rapid intervention unit. The councilor for Finance and Interior, Lluís Amat, announced that the increase in resources to the Local Police will lead to “a new structure, with which we will have 43 officers, nine corporals, two sergeants and a sub-inspector. It will be the most suitable to function, as the Chief of the Local Police has sent us in his report”.

In parallel to the increase in places, the councilor announced that he is also committed to improving and strengthening the service. In this line, it is intended to strengthen surveillance “in some points of Martorell that may be more susceptible to conflict, which fortunately are few. We will increase the vigilance more closely”.

To make this possible, the councilor pointed out that “we will install some more cameras than we already have, and they will be in charge of traffic control at the four access points to the town and also at the station entrances “. The purpose of all of this is to “mitigate insecurity and protect as much as possible those most in need: the elderly and the young”.

The new security road map in Martorell aims to improve and speed up communication between citizens and agents as much as possible. To make it a reality, “we will soon launch a new application where establishments that suffer from any conflict or aggression will be able to communicate quickly with the Police”.

The increase in the population of Martorell, the activation of the Xàmenes Industrial Estate and the desire to increasingly specialize the services provided by the Local Police are the reasons that have led the municipal government team “to equip this body of the human resources needed to respond to safety and prevention needs in Martorell and to manage the different tools that will be implemented”.

Amat justified that “the new neighborhood of La Sínia incorporates 1,100 new homes, in which between 3,000 and 3,500 people will live. In addition, the growth of Xàmenes will mean that mobility and traffic will require more and better services”. Regarding the specific units of the Local Police, he recalled that “we already did the traffic and proximity units and they had good results. Now we are betting on a new urgent and rapid intervention unit”.

The desire to continue improving security in the municipality leads to “provide the Local Police with the necessary human resources to respond to the security and prevention needs in Martorell, and to manage the different tools that will be implemented, so it is necessary to increase the staff of the Local Police”.

The report drawn up by this insurance body highlights the increase in actions in recent years, which have gone from 8,065 in 2021 to 13,799 in 2023. Of the total number of interventions last year, 4,785 were in the area of the Traffic Police; 2,544 in that of the Administrative Police; 3,698 of Citizen Security; 1,637 from the Assistance Police and 1,135 from the Neighborhood Police.
