- Oura reacts to Samsung and introduces the next generation of its ring
- We will see a slight design change and maybe even new sizes
- The Finnish company will probably show us two design versions
Samsung recently introduced its Galaxy Ring, and the first information about the the new generation of Oura Ring. The Finnish company introduced the last one almost three years ago, so a successor is definitely in order. Foreign sources reveal not only the design, but also some sizes.
What did the certification reveal?
Thanks to certification documents discovered by Android Authority, we know that the new model will bear the designation “Oura Ring 4”, which is probably not unexpected. The designation also flashed in the documents “OA11” the variant “OA12”, which could be different versions or color versions. Images in the certification indicate that we will see slight redesign, but don’t expect revolutionary changes. A sharper eye will notice that the central part of the ring is slightly raised with a more pronounced transition to the edges. The inner part with the transparent cover of the sensors remains, but the internal protrusions for better contact with the sensors have disappeared. So the new design resembles the current edition Horizonalbeit with a slightly flatter profile.
The ring will of course be available in several sizes, the certification specifically mentions 7, 9, 10, 13 a 15. Sizes 6, 8, 11 and 12 will hardly disappear from the menu, but Oura, on the other hand, will probably add some sizes.
The certification documents did not reveal whether we will see new sensors beyond the existing ones (skin temperature, SpO2, heart rate), so unfortunately neither we cannot speculate on new features. Based on the leak, however, it looks like Oura is betting on evolution rather than revolution. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing – the current generation is still the best in its class, and minor improvements can be enough.
Are smart rings an interesting alternative to fitness bracelets and smart watches for you?
