Today, Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) discussed economic cooperation between the two countries by phone with South Korean President Jun Sok-yol following the recent decision that the Korean company KHNP will build new nuclear units in Dukovany.
On the X Fiala network he wrotethat the Czech Republic is interested in new Korean investments and in increasing the volume of its exports to Korea, and that the South Korean president will soon visit the Czech Republic. Seoul immediately announced that the trip would take place in September.
According to the South Korean news agency Jonhap, Jun Sok-yol intends to send a special team to the Czech Republic in the foreseeable future to discuss the follow-up measures in connection with the selection of a South Korean company for construction in Dukovany.
Last week, the Czech government decided that the new nuclear units will be built by the company KHNP, which it gave preference to the French EDF. At the same time, the cabinet decided on the construction of two reactors in Dukovany, with the price for one block to be approximately 200 billion crowns. Construction should begin in 2029 and the first unit should start producing electricity in 2036. At the same time, the government will negotiate with KHNP about the option for two more nuclear units in TemelĂn.
Fiala said today that he spoke with Jun Sok-jol about deepening economic cooperation following the nuclear tender. “The Czech Republic is interested in new Korean investments and in increasing our exports to Korea. Further negotiations will take place in the fall,” he added.
