Google introduced a new streaming device. However, it resembles a modern set-top box more than Chromecast

The work on a new streaming device from Google has been known for some time, but now new and more detailed information is coming to the surface. According to the magazine 9to5google should the new device be called the Google TV Streamer and in terms of design should resemble a larger set-top box-like device rather than a compact “HDMI dongle”.

As seen in the images, Google wants to bring its devices more in front of users’ eyes, as the new device will have an oval base with a pill-like slope. It is not yet clear if this shape serves only an aesthetic purpose, or if its tilt is intentional, for example due to the presence of touch controls or the Tap to Cast feature announced for the Pixel Tablet earlier this year.

Together with the streaming device, the design of the remote control was also covered. Its design is again tuned to a minimalist style and will offer a similar button layout as the remote control introduced with the last generation Chromecast. Compared to it, the controller is slightly longer and the volume control buttons have moved from the side to the top.

Google is apparently planning to leave the Chromecast segment and introduce a product that would be more competitive with the Apple TV 4K. However, how much Google TV Streamer will cost and when it will be available on e-shop counters is not yet completely clear. We can only hope that Google manages to keep the price of the new device under $100, as it was with previous models.
