Want to sign up for a Spotify subscription, but don’t know the differences between the different options? In this article, we list all types of Spotify subscriptions and their most important features.
Choice guide: The Spotify subscription for you
Spotify first draws a line between paid and unpaid subscriptions. Those who decide to open their wallets then have four choices. Because the different packages are quite similar, we will list the subscriptions in this article. This way you can make a choice from all Spotify subscriptions.
Spotify Free
Listening to Spotify is free. At least, if you don’t mind hearing commercials in between. The free Spotify subscription is paid for by advertisers. They speak commercials between songs.
Furthermore, the free Spotify subscription has some other limitations. For example, you can’t download songs for offline use. So you always need a wifi or mobile data connection to be able to stream.
Furthermore, Spotify Free doesn’t let you choose your own playback order when you want to listen to a playlist or album. Instead, you have to hit the shuffle button, which means you have to wait and see which song order you’re presented with.
Spotify Premium Subscription: 4 Options
Don’t want to watch commercials while listening and want to be able to download songs? Then Spotify Premium is the answer. The music service has four paid subscriptions. Below we will discuss the different options and their features. With all packages you can listen to music without commercials, download songs and determine your own playing order.
1. Studentenkorting
Are you a student? Then you can listen to music ad-free at a competitive rate with the Spotify Student subscription. This package costs 5,99 euro per month and the only condition is that you must be registered at an institution for higher education. You must prove this annually by renewing your student registration.
2. Individual
This is the standard Spotify subscription. The individual package costs 10,99 euro per month and offers all the benefits of a paid subscription. There are no strings attached; anyone can sign up for Premium.
3. Duo
Do you live with your partner? Then Spotify Premium Duo might be something for you. This package is intended for couples living together, because you both have to be registered at the same address. Incidentally, this does not seem to be checked very strictly, but keep quiet. For 14,99 euro You will receive two regular Premium subscriptions per month.
4. Family
This is the subscription with the best price-quality ratio. Spotify Family costs 17,99 euro per month and has room for up to 6 accounts. This means that if you have a Family package with five other family members, each member will spend around 3 euros per month. With this subscription it is possible to filter explicit music. For example, you can set that the youngest family member cannot listen to vulgar songs.
The most important condition for taking out a Spotify Family subscription is that all members must live at the same address. At the moment, you can still circumvent this requirement quite easily, which means that some groups of friends share a family package, for example. Spotify is said to be checking this more strictly in the future to prevent abuse.
More music services
In addition to Spotify, there are more services to stream music. We are happy to tell you why you should or should not switch.
