Foldable smartphones

Xiaomi has introduced two new foldables. In addition to the Mix Fold 4, the manufacturer is also offering a smartphone in a clamshell design for the first time with the Mix Flip.

Xiaomi presented the new foldable smartphones of the MIX series, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 and the Xiaomi Mix Flip, at the “Lei Jun Annual Speech” conference. While the Mix Fold 4 succeeds the Mix Fold 3 and is positioned as a competitor to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6, the Mix Flip is the manufacturer’s first clamshell foldable, which is positioned as a competitor to the Galaxy Z Flip 6.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 4: Innovative design and advanced technology

According to the manufacturer, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 is intended to prove through significant innovations that foldable smartphones do not have to be heavy or impractical. With a new hinge, it is not only intended to save weight, but also to be more compact. The Mix Fold 4 is only 4.59 millimeters thick when unfolded and 9.47 millimeters when folded. This makes it only slightly thicker than the Honor V3 at 4.3 and 9.2 millimeters respectively.

The device has a 7.98-inch internal display with a resolution of 2,488 x 2,244 and support for HDR10+. The external display measures 6.56 inches with a resolution of 2,520 x 1,080 pixels. Both displays have a refresh rate of 120 Hz and support Dolby Vision.

The Mix Fold 4 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and features a 3D cooling system to ensure efficient heat dissipation. The 5,100mAh battery supports 67W fast charging and 50W wireless charging.

On the back there is a quad camera system with Leica optics. The main camera works with a 50 MP sensor. There is also a 12 MP ultra-wide angle, a 50 MP telephoto lens with macro function and a periscope telephoto lens.

Xiaomi Mix Flip: Compact and powerful foldable

The Xiaomi Mix Flip is Xiaomi’s first compact foldable. It has a 4-inch external display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and HDR support and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. A full-screen keyboard is available on the external display and calls can also be made with good audio quality when the phone is closed.

The Mix Flip is also powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and uses a 3D cooling system. The battery has a capacity of 4,780 mAh and supports fast charging. The frame and hinge use the same materials as the Mix Fold 4, which should ensure high stability and low wear.

The device is equipped with a camera system with two Leica lenses. These can also be used for selfies in conjunction with the external display. A mirror function is also integrated.
