Office 2016 & 2019: End of support dates

No more updates

The end of support for Office 2016 and 2019 has been decided: From October 14, 2025, the two Office versions will no longer receive updates.

Similar to the Windows operating systems, the Office 2016 and 2019 suites are also provided with regular updates by Microsoft. However, this will end next year, as the developers announced in a Blog post proclaim.

As of October 14, 2025, Microsoft will officially stop providing technical support for the two Office applications. After this date, there will therefore be no more updates for Office 2016 and 2019. Microsoft warns in particular about security-related aspects, as any vulnerabilities will no longer be fixed after this date.

The applications affected by the end of support include all content of the Office package, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Skype and Powerpoint. The Publisher app will be discontinued entirely and removed from the respective subscriptions; this process is scheduled to take place in October 2026.

Companies and private users who currently use one of the two Office versions are advised to switch to Office 365 or LTSC (Long-Term Servicing Channel). However, the end of support for the 2021 version has been set for October 13, 2026. The 2024 version is currently in the works and is expected to be launched in fall 2024 at the latest.
